I know it’s been a while for news about Atlas; fear not, the app is still being released. SPARKcon is on the front-burner right now (in fact, you might see some pieces of Atlas in the SPARKcon app)

New iPhone app: Atlas!

Howdy folks! I’ve been hard at work with a new iPhone creation. If you’re a using of location-based apps, you’ll definitely be interested.

It’s called ‘Atlas’ and it’s a universal check-in app for the iPhone. With Atlas, you can check in to multiple location-based services (FourSquare, BrightKite, TriOut) all in the same app.

You’ll also be to save the same location (ie, Starbucks) under different location services as a “favorite”. In essence, it’s a meta-checkin favorite.

Need audio/video out?

If you want to play your movies from your Macbook on your HDTV, check out Kanex’s iAdapt. It takes video from any Mini DisplayPort and outputs it over HDMI. It outputs audio as well (both left/right stereo and digital audio).

Multiple email addresses in Gmail on the iPhone/iPad

Modern Nerd has a good write-up on how to enable multiple “from” addresses in email on your iPhone/iPad.

Some key points:

It only works in Gmail

Set it up as an IMAP account, NOT a Gmail account

Very useful if you use your Gmail as a unified inbox.

3G iPad data plans overview

TidBITS has a nice write-up on the two 3G data plans from AT&T.

Some key points:

The plans auto-renew each month. If you want 3G data access for just that month, you *have* to cancel before the next billing cycle.
When you sign up, you create an ID that’s unrelated to any existing AT&T & iTunes account.
Any account that’s unused for 2 months gets deleted (so you have to create it again after that)
Streaming video will eat up your 250MB plan *really* quick.

Here’s another tip: If you’re not using the 3G connection, turn off the ‘Cellular Data’ to save power:

Dead pixel test for the iPad

Dead pixels occur sometimes on LCD displays (it’s not specific to just iPads; any LCD can have them).

If you notice some on your iPad, set up an appointment at your local Apple Store to get it looked at.
